Instead of replacing decorations every holiday season, the focus is on creating a festive look that complements the home's existing design.
Interior designer Valentina Fussell of House of Valentina believes two decorating styles will dominate this Christmas: All-American Classic and Modern Heritage.
Both celebrate nostalgia, rich textures, and traditional holiday details, but each offers a slightly different atmosphere.
Here are the Christmas decorating trends Fussell expects to see everywhere this holiday season.
According to Fussell, homeowners are growing tired of constantly changing decorating trends.
Rather than investing in new decorations every year, they're looking for holiday pieces they can collect and enjoy for decades.
The goal is to build a Christmas decorating collection that complements your dream home, rather than following every passing trend.

The first major style Fussell highlights is All-American Classic Christmas, featuring the familiar red, green, and white color palette.
This joyful, nostalgic look includes traditional Christmas trees, tartan ribbons, red berries, greenery, and classic ornaments.
Fussell also loves incorporating dark wood furniture, Persian rugs, gold accents, and classic Christmas dinnerware.
For bedrooms, she suggests red or green velvet bedding, tartan-backed quilts, and other cozy seasonal textiles.
The overall feeling is cheerful, familiar, and full of Christmas nostalgia.

The second dominant style is Modern Heritage, which shares many traditional elements with All-American Classic but introduces a richer, warmer palette.
Instead of bright red and white, Modern Heritage emphasizes burgundy, hunter green, deep navy, and brown.
Fussell describes this look as softer, more elegant, and slightly more sophisticated.
While the All-American look feels bright and festive, Modern Heritage creates a cozy, layered atmosphere.
The two styles can easily overlap. Homeowners can choose one palette throughout their house, decorate different rooms in different styles, or mix elements of both.
One decorative detail Fussell expects to see everywhere is bows.
Rather than limiting them to Christmas presents, decorators are incorporating bows throughout their homes.
They can be attached to Christmas trees, wreaths, chandeliers, sconces, candleholders, and individual ornaments.
Fussell particularly loves classic red ribbons for All-American Christmas and burgundy or brown velvet bows for Modern Heritage.
Shop for ribbon early, since popular styles often sell out before November!
Mercury glass is another standout decoration Fussell has noticed across holiday collections.
She's particularly excited about etched mercury glass ornaments, which were previously harder to find.
These reflective pieces work beautifully with either Christmas style, adding sparkle without overpowering traditional color palettes.
Beyond classic round ornaments, Fussell predicts renewed interest in decorative shapes with nostalgic appeal.
Animals, including deer and squirrels, are especially prominent, along with Santas, teddy bears, and charming little houses.
These decorations also create opportunities to personalize a tree, whether through traditional holiday characters, woodland animals, or even fishing-inspired ornaments.
When planning holiday decor, Fussell recommends creating mood boards before shopping to establish a Christmas color palette, decide which rooms to decorate, and avoid unnecessary purchases.
She also suggests shopping early for popular holiday decorations like ribbons, berries, greenery, and ornaments before they sell out.
But planning ahead doesn't mean decorating early. You can still enjoy fall while gradually collecting Christmas pieces you love.
For Fussell, Christmas 2026 is about meaningful traditions and timeless decorations you'll love year after year.
Whether you prefer the cheerful red and green of All-American Classic or the elegance of Modern Heritage, both styles create a warm, nostalgic holiday atmosphere.
Best of all, you can combine them for a beautifully layered Christmas home.
