Cold gray tile and stark white bathrooms are giving way to spaces that feel warmer and more personal. If you are planning a renovation, these are the directions worth knowing about.
Terracotta, clay, sage and deep green are replacing gray and white. To try it without a renovation, paint the walls, trim and ceiling in the same warm color. This "color drenching" makes even a small bathroom feel cocooning.

Wood vanities are overtaking painted ones, and some designers are adding wood paneling to walls and ceilings. Wood adds warmth and hides fingerprints and smudges. Start with a vanity, a framed mirror or a teak stool.
Pink, peach and teal toilets and sinks are returning. Keep the idea to a powder room and choose a single colored fixture rather than a full matching suite.

Metal is showing up on shower panels and walls, not just faucets. Brushed and aged finishes reflect light and hide water spots better than polished ones.
Glossy, perfectly uniform tile is losing ground to zellige, handmade ceramic and tiles with visible variation.
Skirted vanities, linen shower curtains and small upholstered stools soften hard surfaces.
Faucets are being treated like jewelry, with sculptural shapes and unlacquered brass.
Wall-mounted toilets, hidden storage and frameless glass create a cleaner, more open look.
Heated seats, built-in bidets and self-cleaning features are becoming more common and more affordable.
