Its large leaves bring something a little different to a room, and displaying it doesn’t have to be complicated.
Here’s what makes this plant stand out and how I like to style it.
The Swiss cheese plant gets its common name from the holes in its leaves. Some leaves may have holes, while others don’t.
Usually, holes in a plant’s leaves might make you suspect a pest or caterpillar has been eating them.
But the monstera’s characteristic holes are meant to be there. In my opinion, they add to the beauty of the foliage, which is this plant’s biggest highlight.

One reason I like monstera as a houseplant is that it can handle low light.
That’s an important distinction: it can tolerate low light, rather than necessarily preferring it.
If you’re looking for something different from the familiar fiddle-leaf fig or sansevieria, a monstera can change things up with its distinctive foliage.
It can also work as an outdoor patio plant in a hot, humid environment like ours. Think about your own conditions when deciding where to display it.
You don’t need a complicated arrangement to make this plant look beautiful.
I have both a tall and a short container to show how easily you can change its presentation.
For a simple display, place the plant in your chosen container. Let the foliage do the heavy lifting, and choose a planter that suits the look you want in your home.

Consider choosing a planter that comes with a tray underneath. When watering the plant, the tray catches the water that drains through instead of letting it spill across your floor.
To me, monstera has a modern look. If you want to give it a more traditional feel, try pairing it with a traditional-style pot.
This green planter creates a monochromatic display.
A monstera’s distinctive foliage makes it a beautiful plant to highlight in your home.
Keep the arrangement simple, choose a planter that complements your style, and consider a tray underneath to catch water.
With just a few thoughtful choices, you can let those unusual leaves take center stage.
